Overview
It took 30 years, more than 1 million volunteers, and $80 million in donations of cash and materials to bring 1,000 families the safety, stability, and dignity of affordable homeownership. The state of Colorado, 42 communities, and 5,000 lives have forever changed. Together, we will build 1,000 more homes for individual families in Colorado and internationally over the next 3 years. With an appropriate campaign theme “There’s no place like Home”, Habitat hopes to help future families have a place to call home.
The first year of the campaign was a great success! Here are a few highlights: Metro Denver celebrated their 30th anniversary, Archuleta built their 20th home, Loveland built their 85th home, Roaring Fork opened their 2nd ReStore, Greeley began acquiring foreclosed homes and performing rehabs, and Vail Valley took a global village trip to Paraguay. HFHC is excited to announce in calendar year 2009 the Colorado affiliates collectively closed on 106 homes!

Why Homes Matter
EVERYONE DESERVES A SAFE, DECENT PLACE TO CALL HOME.
-
Between 2000 and 2006 the number of children living in poverty in Colorado increased by an astounding 73%, while the total number of children only increased by 6%.
-
The minimum wage in Colorado in 2008 was $7.02. To afford the average two bedroom apartment at this wage you would need to work 92 hours per week. This often translates into hidden homelessness and high levels of transiency, as families chase move-in specials and attempt to avoid rent increases each year.
-
In 2007 the median home price in Colorado was $236,842. A prospective home buyer would need to earn more than $55,000 to afford the average home. This precludes many firefighters, elementary school teachers, carpenters, retail salespersons, tellers, servers and licensed practical nurses from homeownership.
-
More than half of low-income households in Colorado pay in excess of 50% of their incomes on rent.
THE IMPACT OF HOUSING ON THE LIVES OF FAMILIES RUNS DEEP
-
Raise children’s academic scores and reduce behavioral problems in school.
-
Improve attendance at school and work.
-
Lower rates of chronic childhood illnesses such as asthma.
-
Move people out of poverty.
-
Revitalize neighborhoods and raise property values.
-
Reduce the strain on education, public health, social service, law enforcement, criminal justice and welfare systems.
-
Bring increased tax revenues to the entire community.
-
Increase the customer and employee base for local businesses.

Habitat for Humanity Paraguay - Overview
Habitat for Humanity Paraguay - How To Give
For the 1000 Homes campaign, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity Paraguay. Paraguay, a small land-locked country in central South America, was chosen as a partner for its great need, the organization's capacity for international engagement, and its program focus on education.
In Paraguay, Habitat for Humanity has initiated a unique program-based model that was born out of a partnership with the national teachers association. Over the next three years, the organization plans to build 600 homes in partnership with teachers and their families. The program includes the standard Habitat self-help housing model, and also incorporates a rigorous financial literacy curriculum and savings plan for participating families. By developing affordable housing and preparing teachers to become long-term homeowners, the organization is addressing multiple social factors and providing immeasurable benefit to the community as a whole.
Consider joining the journey to the next 1000 Homes, and designate a portion of your tithe to Paraguay.

Resources For Affiliates
How Do Affiliates Benefit from the 1000 Homes Campaign?
The 1000 Homes Campaign is a statewide push to reach a collective goal: 1000 homes in three years, both in Colorado and globally through the tithe. Through this campaign HFHC seeks to raise awareness of affordable housing issues and bring in $1 million in NEW donations to Colorado affiliates. But how does your affiliate fit into that campaign?
1. Statewide PR- HFHC has strengthened our public relations efforts around the common message of "There's no place like home", celebrating 1000 homes built in Colorado and raising awareness of the need for affordable homeownership opportunities and the Habitat for Humanity mission. To date, HFHC has placed advertisements on television to promote donating at shopping at ReStores, in cinemas to promote local volunteering and donations, and in high end magazines to raise awareness of our mission and the campaign. In addition multiple media placements have highlighted campaign events and local affiliate involvement. High quality campaign materials have been developed and are available to affiliates.
2. Enhanced Donor Outreach - Through the campaign, HFHC will provide a higher level of donor recognition to both state and local level donors, sending an additional letter of thanks along with a commemorative brick to recognize their gift as part of the state campaign. In addition, affiliates can utilize the collective campaign messaging to appeal to new donors or to increase the gifts of current donors. The campaign also offers a new set of fundraising tools to affiliates to utilize locally, including Luna Roaster coffee sales, themed local events, direct mail, and more.
3. Statewide and International Context- The campaign creates new opportunities to communicate our mission. Now, not only have you built four homes locally, you are also part of the group accomplishment of 1000 homes in Colorado. And by focusing our tithe on Paraguayan teacher's project, we have a new opportunity to educate donors about our global work, and about the critical links between housing and education.
Finally, all funds raised through this campaign will be directed toward affiliate benefit - funding important outreach and marketing, growing your potential donor base, and flowing through directly to affiliates as pass-through grants.
