Habitat Colorado worked this past legislative session to expand the existing property tax exemption for property on which affordable for-sale homes are constructed or rehabilitated, to create more affordable homeownership opportunities. Land is the largest up-front expense when undertaking an affordable housing development, and the now passed HB23-1184 will improve and expand upon the property tax exemption created in 2011 (HB11-1241) that makes it cost efficient for non-profit developers to build affordable housing.
